How to take time when you are stuck in a car

Calm your mind:

  • Deep breathing: Take a slow, deep breath, pause, and exhale slowly. It will help you relax your body and mind.
  • Listen to music: Listen to your favorite relaxing music or podcast. You have to concentrate on driving, but soothing music can relieve your frustrated mood.
  • Positive thinking: It can also be helpful to think positive thoughts such as 'Let's take a break from the road anyway' or 'Thanks to this time, I have my own time'.

Relieve boredom:

  • Audiobooks or podcasts: Spend time listening to books or interesting podcasts you've always wanted to read.
  • Look out the window: Take a closer look at the surrounding scenery that you usually pass by. It can be fun to discover new buildings, flowers, and trees.
  • Light stretching: This is a small space, but you can also gently rotate your shoulders or neck, or move your wrists and ankles. For your safety, you should only do this during stops!
  • Plan for the future: It's also a great way to spend time imagining things like planning for the upcoming weekend or a trip.

Keep your mind relaxed:

  • Start early: If possible, it may be best to leave a little earlier to avoid traffic.
  • Use public transport: Sometimes, using public transport can be a way to reduce stress. You can move around while reading a book or doing other activities.
  • Use navigation: It is also helpful to check real-time traffic conditions and navigate detours.
  • Be considerate of other drivers: It's annoying, but taking the time to be kind to other drivers can have a good effect on you in the long run.
